Automotive Technician II is a career-readiness program with job placement assistance. Students learn the fundamentals of brakes, electrical/electronic systems, engine performance, light engine repair and maintenance, heating and air conditioning, as well as suspension and steering. Also, included in this course is a section dedicated to tire service, a first for any vocational school/college in the area. Students spend time learning how to maintain, repair, and replace automotive, commercial, and farm tires. The course includes both classroom instruction and hands-on training. Students earn more than 30 certifications from companies such as BG Products, Tire Industry Association (TIA), Hunter Engineering Company, and Mobile Air Conditioning Systems (MACS). CDL/Transit Driver Test Prepprepares individuals for the written and/or skills test portion of the Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License. This is a one month course divided into two sections: written exam and road skills training. Students learn safety and responsibilities, DOT compliance, coupling, pre-inspection, and in-cab air brake inspection. Students are supervised and gain defensive driving and basic road skills by our in-house trainers. The OK Department of Public Safety administers the CDL test on-site for our students at the end of the course. (This course is based in Wyandotte, OK)
Automotive courses are taught at Pelivan Transit’s Flexible Fuel Vehicle Maintenance Facility at the Grand Gateway EDA campus in Big Cabin, OK. Students receive classroom training and hands-on work experience during their certification program. The eight-bay shop is equipped with modern state-of-the-art equipment, lifts, diagnostic computers, and programs and is one of the state’s premier Flexible Fuel Vehicle Maintenance facility construction with Federal Transit Administration funding in 2014.
